The Accommodation
Our aim is to provide your pet/s with a happy healthy experience when they are placed with us. We have a purpose- build shed that is located within a shaded environment (trees!) providing the optimum temperature all year round, cooler in the summer and sheltered in the winter. This can be heated if required. Maintaining a comfortable temperature for you pet is very important. The hutches we provide are all outdoor quality, so that they can be moved depending on the weather/ your preference etc.
Rabbits / Guinea Pigs
Our rabbit hutches are high quality, spacious minimum 4ft length providing plenty of living space for individual pets or bonded pairs (we also have 5ft hutches for bigger bunnies or more than 2 bonded sharing)
Degus / Hamsters / Chinchillas etc
We can provide rodent, degus hamster etc cages, but we really prefer if you bring you own as this minimises stress over the first few days for your pet. If this is not possible don’t worry just let us know. We have special fun packed hamster and guinea pig, degus rodent etc runs that your pet will have daily access to.
Birds
We welcome all types of birds, we ask they are kept in their own cages as this is less stressful for you pet, however we can provide cages if required Please talk to us about this. We have a secure outside aviary for small birds.
Reptiles
We welcome all types of reptiles. We currently have limited vivarium space so please bring yours along if possible, If not please talk to us and we will see what we can do.
The Runs
The runs are purpose-built and have been designed to allow each pet a full fun exercise experience with plenty of room to stretch and run! They have a covered bed area and are located on plenty of fresh grass ( if applicable) if the weather permits, or on secure ground under our trees providing good shelter from sun or rain, or in the winter, indoors. All runs are equipped with toys/ tunnels etc for your pet to enjoy.
We promise they won’t get bored here! Please be assured that your pet/s will NEVER share a run with other pets, all exercise is exclusive to your own pet/s!
The Daily Care We Offer
Cleaning
Each hutch/ cage is cleaned daily and thoroughly disinfected between each new pet visitor. The cages/hutches are lined with a thick layer of newspaper topped with a layer of quality dust extracted sawdust which provides plenty of warmth and absorbency and is extremely hygienic. We are happy to provide small litter trays, just let us know if you wish these. The bedding area, changed daily if required, is fresh hay supplied by our local farmer.
Feeding
To prevent any tummy upsets we ask that you provide your pet/s’own dry food. This will be stored in an individual sealed container with your pet/s name on it. We will provide fresh hay, fresh fruit/ vegetables (carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, apple etc) We also provide fresh water daily. If your pet has any special dietary requirements please discuss this with us.
Storing items for your pet
On arrival your pet/s will be allocated its individual large sealed plastic container, which will be named, in which your dry food, any medicines, ( i.e. lotion for prevention of fly strike ) and anything else you want your pet to have access to during their stay with us will be stored. We are happy to groom your pet if you bring along the brushes or you can buy some from us when you arrive. WE CANNOT SHARE PET BRUSHES Please feel free to bring along whatever makes your pet happy!
Daily routine
The routine will be weather dependant, but all pets are checked over early each morning and those going into outside runs are put outside in the secure runs to play. Birds cages can also be placed outside in good weather unless requested otherwise . Hamsters etc are given access to the individual play runs. All pets are given fresh water, fresh fruit/veg and their cages/ hutches cleaned out and soiled bedding replaced in the morning. A rota of individual handling (unless requested otherwise from yourself) begins. This consists of playful interaction with your pet by experienced handlers, cuddling/ stroking/ brushing/ handling and as this is happening your pet is checked over for signs of anything out of the ordinary like fly strike etc. Handlers hands are washed thoroughly between handling each pet to ensure no cross infection can occur . Throughout the day one of us will be on hand to keep an eye on your pet, to stop for a chat with them or just to be amused by their antics! Toys etc in the runs are regularly cleaned and disinfected , and we watch to see the kind of play your pet enjoys, and provide toys best suited to them. Of our 2 rabbits, one loves to play with balls, the other never touches the ball but loves to run through the plastic tunnel and climb on things. They really do have a mind of their own! In the evening, the pets are returned to their cages/hutches
The large hut that houses the pets is naturally shaded, and the shaded lighting seems to minimise stress, allowing for a more peaceful night for everyone!
